About A Wild Idea

A man with a beard in a blue checkered shirt holding a glass of red wine stands in a vineyard. There is a sign in front of him that reads "Finca La Idea Loca 2008 - 3 acres." Green vines grow behind him with wooden posts and wires, and mountains are visible in the distance under a clear sky.

A Wild Idea is something that happens unexpectedly;  an unplanned event; the birth of a new passion;  the instant when your brain has second thoughts while your hearts smiles...

Why hesitate?  You only live once.  This was my wild idea: “Honey, I bought a vineyard in Argentina”.

Since 2011, we have produced award-winning, limited production red, white and rosé wines using grapes from our vineyards (which were planted in 2008) in the Los Chacayes region of the Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina. We market and distribute through our Winery/ warehouse located in Houston, Texas.

While not a typical winery, AWI Wines is an extension of A Wild Idea developed by friends who identified an interesting winemaking opportunity in a remote, but highly promising area in the Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina.

Vineyard with green grapevines, wooden stakes, and a red sign that reads "Finca La Idea Loca" along with the year 2007 and one acre.

We started making wine in 2011, with the idea of simply drinking all the wine we produced. However, we quickly realized that our vineyards produced more than we could consume (although we seriously did try), so we decided, in 2014, to commercialize our wines, especially since the wines produced in this area are exceptional. Just another wild idea…
